Three new ships are inaugurated on Kish Island

Three new passengers and cargo ships are inaugurated at Kish harbour. According to KFZO Office of Cultural Affairs and PR, at the ceremonies, KFZO MD pointed out that the Persian Gulf is a means of expanding Kish Island and stressed on the need to make the optimum use of this God sent gift for the development of economic and touristic activities. Engineer Majid Shayesteh said: “One of the ways to develop tourism in Kish is to increase the number of commercial and passenger harbours on the island with various development programmes”. He supported the presence of the private sector in this free zone and reminded: “If the private sector was not present in Kish, the expansion of the island would have no meaning”. In another part of his speech, Shayesteh emphasised on giving new services, especially to tourists, on the island and said: “With the expansion of regular shipping lines and the building of roads, new tourism complexes are being designed by travel agents in the private sector”. He stated: “By the year 2025 in the comprehensive plan of Kish, the transport of 300 thousand passengers from Kish harbour has been predicted. With the present trend of development in the harbour, this capacity may well be reached before this deadline”. According to this same report, the Kish Shipping Company MD also said at the ceremonies: “The Marjan Kish ship, with a capacity of 50 passengers and 20 tonnes of cargo intended to serve oil platforms, and Gohar Kish, with a capacity to transfer 235 passengers between Kish-Bandar Aftab and Kish-Bandar Lengueh are operational”. Ahmad Karami added: “Also, the Aria landing craft with the capacity to move one thousand tonnes of goods in the internal routes and between Kish-Dubai is being used”. He pointed out to the need to provide suitable sea transport to Kish Island tourists, and said: “During the Norouz New Year holidays, Kish Shipping Company will be ready with eight ships to transfer tourists”. Simultaneously with these ceremonies, the exploitation of the new Kish harbour terminal also began, and the Port and Airport Development Company MD said at the ceremony: “This project has an area of 25 thousand square metres and 100 thousand square metres of green space and car park. It has been built at a cost of over 14 billion rials”. Bashir Khalili said the aim of the project was to facilitate the transfer of passengers and create an enjoyable view for them upon entry to Kish harbour.
