KFZO MD: Kish Island plays an effective role in non-oil exports

The KFZO MD said: “Kish Free Zone holds 20 international expert exhibitions annually and will play an effective role in non-oil exports”. According to KFZO Office of Cultural Affairs and PR, at the opening of the 2nd International Handwoven carpets on Tuesday evening in Kish, engineer Madadi added: “KFZO will do its utmost to increase non-oil exports and introduce commodities suitable for supplying in regional and international markets”. He continued: “KFZO is ready to cooperate and provide the required facilities for setting up an international handwoven carpet centre”. He announced that the handwoven Persian carpet has always been admired worldwide and pointed out to the statistics published by Iranian Customs: “Last year, around 11 tonnes of handwoven carpets worth 400 million dollars were exported to various parts of the world, which shows a slight drop as compared to 2006”. According to Madadi, India and Pakistan have secured their position on the international carpet market after Iran, with 315 and 240 million dollars worth of exports respectively, while Persian carpet exports from Iran show a drop from 500 million dollars in 2004 to 440 million dollars in 2006. The KFZO MD stressed: “Persian carpets have always been known as a valued art from ancient times and have enjoyed much reputation and prestige. Increasing its exports to global markets must be seriously considered”. In the end, he called the Kish expert exhibition of handwoven carpets as one of the most important, both nationally and regionally, and said: “Holding expert handwoven carpet exhibitions showcases the most exquisite and unique handicraft of our country”. The 6th Handwoven Carpets Exhibition and 2nd International Handwoven Carpets of Kish with the participation of 170 internal and 50 international companies, including China, India, Afghanistan, and Pakistan is from 29th April – 2nd May, at the Kish International Exhibition Centre.
