The KFZO Board Director and MD announced: "With the opening of the international oil exchange and the international commodities exchange in the near future, attracting foreign investment in this zone will speed up and Kish Island will be transformed into an international base for the exchange of oil and commodities". According to the KFZO Office of Cultural Affairs and PR, at the opening ceremony of the 1st Investment Opportunities Exhibition on Wednesday evening in Kish, engineer Majid Shayesteh pointed out that the volume of approved investments on Kish Island during the past two years in various sectors amounted to 20 thousand billion Rials, and added: "Over 60% of this figure has been substantiated and work is underway". He announced the readiness of KFZO to support the private sector in all aspects and reminded: "Investors can refer to KFZO for investment in developing Kish Port and Airport, expanding water desalination capacities, the sewer network, electricity power plant, construction of Health City, national forests, men and women's beaches, funfair, and marine sports". In another part of his speech, the KFZO MD stressed on the implementation of Article 44 of the Constitution and said: "Based on the 20-year outlook, the government's share in the country's economy will be reduced by 20%". According to Shayesteh, the private sector has a special stance in absorbing foreign investment today, and it can play an effective role in attracting and guiding foreign investment by interacting with foreign investors. He also pointed out to increased national and international investment in the country and said: "In 2002, the volume of foreign investment in the country was 612 million dollars. This figure increased to 10 billion dollars in 2006, and is forecasted to reach an acceptable figure in the current year". The 1st Investment Opportunities Exhibition of Kish opened with the presence of the Head of the SAC, the Head of the National Heritage Organisation, the Supervisor of the Iran Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance Organisation, and other local and country officials, and will continue until Friday 11th January with the participation of 90 domestic companies at the Kish International Exhibition Centre.
