GoKish -> News -> A 10 percent increase in the number of travelers to Kish Island
A 10 percent increase in the number of travelers to Kish Island
The development plans for Kish International Airport has specific aims of which transiting passengers is one of them. Regarding the effects of economic pressures exercised by other countries on flights to this airport, Morteza Dehghan, the Managing Director of Kish International Airport said: "Considering the present situation of the country's air fleet and a lack of planes to some destinations, there has not been a remarkable change in the number of domestic and international flights to Kish. There has even been a 10 percent growth in the number of passengers entering this Island by air in the first six months of the current year, as compared to a similar period last year, despite a drop in the number of flights nationwide". According to him, in the domestic flights of Kish, a reduction in the fleet is more tangible than in international flights. Although a number of KFZ hoteliers and officials had reported a remarkable reduction in the number of daily flights to Kish, up to ten flights, the Managing Director of Kish International Airport stated its daily flights to be 30 during the peak season and 26 flights off peak. He reiterated: "At present, there have been no changes in the routine flights to Kish, and airlines have only stopped their extra flights". In the end, Dehghan pointed out to the expansion of Kish International Airport and added: "The expansion plan is taking place with specified objectives, one of which is to create passenger transit from here". According to him, this airport can accommodate connection flights even now". He also mentioned a number of projects underway at the airport, and said: "A number of completed and underway projects at this airport include the construction of a second runway, setting up closed circuit television cameras, a fueling station, and also equipping the airport with radars".
